Blog - "Chewy Stew”

Born and raised in the Vancouver area, supported by family and friends, having traveled widely, and enjoying a very high quality of life relative to most people on this small globe of ours, I know that I am one of the most fortunate people around.

This awareness is matched by deep concern over the fact that human socio-economic activity is rapidly reducing the bio-productive capacity of all natural systems. Since these systems are what we and our children depend upon for life, and since their degradation by our “ecological footprint” is resulting in rapid biodiversity loss and greater social inequity both globally and locally, I want to adopt a new paradigm and act differently.

I want to align my work pursuits, activism, learning, consumption, and overall lifestyle with core sustainability values (focused on increasing social equity and on restoration of bio-regions and ecosystems). Starting Wellspring is therefore a leap of faith for me and my family, a clear statement that we are going to try to be part of the solution.

This weblog (“blog”) is where I would like to explore with others this attempt to move into new behaviour and new thinking. When it launches, this blog will turn away from the “thin gruel” of adjusting only a few of our unsustainable activities. It will support thinking all this through together and acting in the world, thereby creating a “chewy stew” that deals much more substantively with the challenges we face.

Let me know if such a discussion interests you personally or professionally.
